From Backyard Blues to Entertainer's Paradise: A Personal Oasis Reimagined

This project was a labor of love for me here at Saskia Snyder Design. As you can see in the photos, the initial backyard space was a bit of a blank slate—perfect for potential but lacking in personality and functionality. Knowing how much we love to entertain, transforming it into an entertainer's dream was a no-brainer.
The focus became creating a seamless flow from the indoor living area to the outdoor space. We incorporated a large patio perfect for barbecues and gatherings, comfortable seating areas for conversation, and pops of color throughout to create a vibrant atmosphere. It's now the heart of our social life, allowing us to connect with friends and family under the beautiful California sky. But the transformation wasn't limited to just entertaining! We also completely reimagined the front yard. While some might prioritize a picture-perfect lawn, I craved a space that felt more natural and integrated with the surrounding environment. So, we embarked on creating a woodland oasis –– a haven for local fauna and a visual escape for the neighborhood.
The native and drought-tolerant plants provide beautiful textures and colors, attracting butterflies, birds, and other pollinators. This constantly evolving ecosystem brings a touch of the wild right to our doorstep, fostering a connection with nature for all to enjoy. This project was a deeply personal one, and it perfectly embodies our design philosophy: creating beautiful spaces that are both functional and in harmony with the environment.
